Something a little bit crazy and wild!
We’ve just done something that many call brave… or maybe a bit crazy. Either way, we did it!
Welcome to “A Year Abroad” — our leap into life under the Spanish sun. This is our journey of swapping familiar for new, discovering what everyday life looks like in another country, and following a dream that’s been waiting patiently for its turn.

For the next school year, our family will be living in two countries. Two of us are now soaking up the sunshine in Spain, while the others are holding down the fort back in Norway. It’s not your average arrangement — but mom has always dreamed of living a year abroad, and now the youngest was interested in going to school in Spain.
This is something we’ve talked about for years: the dream of living abroad for a while, experiencing another culture, and and experience a completely different everyday life than we are used to. The timing has never been quite right, and strictly speaking it isn’t now either, but we made the leap!
The plan is equal parts adventure and practicality. We wanted sun and warmer weather, to learn to live a little outside our comfort zones, and to see what it feels like to trade fjords for flamenco. We’ve always enjoyed our vacations in Spain, and now we get the opportunity to check out what it’s actually like to live here and establish a daily routine here. The son with a new school, new friends and hopefully a new handball team, and mom who will learn better Spanish, meet new people and help out a bit in a second-hand shop if it opens.

Will it be easy? Probably not. Are we going to miss everyone back home, especially our family? Of course! Big time! Will it be worth it? We’re counting on it.

So here we are — a family stretched across two countries, two climates, two sets of routines, and one shared sense of adventure. We don’t know exactly what this year will bring, but we do know it’s going to change us in ways we can’t yet imagine.
Here’s to the leap. 🌍☀️ Have any questions? Head over to Instagram and let us know! Anything we should experience? Tell us please, we would love to hear from you!
That’s the latest from our Spanish chapter. Some days feel like home already, others still feel wonderfully unfamiliar — and that’s exactly the adventure we came for.
